Radiologic technology is a field in health care and medicine that requires specialization in computed tomography, x-ray, and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) equipment, which are all used to take images of a body?s insides. Students should have excellent mathematics and science skills because coursework includes anatomy, physiology, biology, patient care, ethics and law in diagnostic imaging, pathology, radiation physics and protection, and exposure principles. The annual median pay was $54,340 in 2010. An associate degree is the most common degree for radiologic technologists, and they must be licensed; requirements vary by state. Individuals should also think about attaining certification since employers prefer certified technologists. Specialization in certain areas of radiologic technology can also increase employment alternatives.
